300 Participating Organizations have joined ORCID
At the beginning of 2012 ORCID has reached another important milestone: 300 organizations have joined ORCID as participants. The 300th participant is Solapur University from India. We want to thank all organizations who have made ORCID possible, and we look forward to an exciting 2012. As always, all new participants are listed here. Academic institutions continue to form the largest group of ORCID participants with 41%, and most participants are from Europe (38%) or North America (37%).
There are many different ways to learn more about ORCID, and the website is usually the best starting point. Two recent recordings allow a different introduction to ORCID. At the CrossRef Annual Meeting in November, ORCID Chairman Howard Ratner gave an update on ORCID. His 25 minute presentation was made available as video and should quickly get you started on ORCID and why this initiative is so important. His slides are available here, and more video recordings of presentations about ORCID can be found here and here. ORCID Interim Technical Director Geoff Bilder was interviewed during the CNI Fall Meeting in December. The 8 minute interview is available as audio podcast and is an excellent introduction to ORCID, including the goals of the ORCID initiative, and the status of technical development.
The next ORCID Outreach Meeting will take place May 17, 2012 in Cambridge, Massachusetts for those who prefer to learn more about ORCID in person. And of course you can always contact the ORCID Board and Working Group members via our contact form.
